Scheuring Helps Riders Prep for AMSOIL Championship Snocross

“Build it and they will come.”

That is what Steve Scheuring of Scheuring Speed Sports said back in the early 2000s when he started building his state-of-the-art snocross-testing facility in Aurora, Minn.

After repeated trips 12 hours north to Thompson, Manitoba to test at a facility that had no cell service, Scheuring saw a need for somewhere for teams to test on snow prior to the start of the AMSOIL Championship Snocross Season in Duluth, Minn. Working at a ski hill as a kid, Scheuring knew that making snow wasn’t all that difficult.

Build it…

So he went to work building what would become the KLIM compound, which sits on 23 sprawling acres about an hour north of Duluth in Aurora, Minn.

Complete with a seven-room bunkhouse, race shop and pit capacity similar to stops we see along the national tour, the Compound keeps the tiny city of Aurora thriving in the off-season.

Pumps retrieve more than three million gallons of water from an old mine pit into a holding pond that sits in the middle of the track to make snow. Fourteen snow guns, two groomers and heavy equipment from Scheuring’s off-season business replicate track conditions similar to those riders will see at the AMSOIL Championship Snocross opener.

Scheuring’s ultimate goal with the creation of his facility is to inspire the young kids of the sport. He hopes having a track where they can prepare will encourage them to overcome their fears and participate in the first race of the season while emerging with fewer injuries.

…and they will come

And come they do. During the week leading up to the AMSOIL Duluth National over Thanksgiving weekend, nearly 50 teams camp out in Aurora prepping for the race. Some will remain throughout the season to use the track to practice between race weekends.

An independent study one year determined that the KLIM Compound brought in more than $400,000 to the city of Aurora in the three weeks leading up to the AMSOIL Championship Snocross opener. Teams from all over the country flood the tiny city, bringing business to local restaurants, hotels and shops that would normally struggle to break even during this “shoulder season.”

Scheuring uses AMSOIL products to keep Compound running

Scheuring obviously uses AMSOIL DOMINATOR Synthetic 2-Stroke Racing Oil in his snowmobiles.

But, what you may not know is that he uses AMSOIL products in all the equipment used to maintain the track as well. Starting a groomer at below-zero temperatures requires superior protection, which AMSOIL Signature Series Max-Duty Synthetic Diesel Oil provides.
