Use the Best Diesel Fuel Additives

Adequate diesel fuel lubricity is essential for protecting the highly engineered components in modern diesel engines, particularly high-pressure common-rail (HPCR) engines, which are subject to increased wear and deposits that interfere with an optimum spray pattern, reducing power and fuel economy. Be sure to keep your engine running strong with the best diesel fuel additives.

ULSD provides less lubricity

Diesel fuel has traditionally had high lubrication properties, but the desulfurization process that allows fuel to meet modern ultra-low-sulfur diesel (ULSD) requirements also strips it of organic compounds responsible for lubrication.

Although the ASTM D975 standard for diesel fuel provides a minimum level of lubricity, it’s not as much as the Engine Manufacturers Association (EMA) has called for.

To meet government mandates for reduced emissions, nearly all diesel fuel sold in North America is ULSD, which contains a maximum of just 15 ppm sulfur, compared to traditional diesel fuel that contained up to 5,000 ppm prior to EPA regulations taking effect in 2006. ULSD is also compatible with modern exhaust treatment devices, such as diesel particulate filters (DPF), that also help reduce emissions.

The superior remedy: AMSOIL diesel fuel additives

The best way to increase fuel lubricity is to use a fuel additive designed specifically for this purpose, like AMSOIL Diesel Injector Clean, Diesel All-In-One or Diesel Injector Clean + Cetane Boost.

AMSOIL diesel fuel additives also provide specific additional benefits designed to keep diesel engines operating at top performance.

Diesel Injector Clean

  • Targets traditional nozzle deposits, combustion-chamber deposits and internal-diesel-injector deposits found in HPCR injectors
  • Lubricates to reduce fuel pump and injector wear
  • Concentrated for rapid results, maximum horsepower and up to 8 percent increased fuel economy in engines with accumulated deposits

Diesel All-In-One

AMSOIL protects against injector wear better than Sea Foam, delivering 2X more diesel fuel lubricity

¹Based upon independent testing of AMSOIL All-In-One obtained Nov. 8, 2018 and Sea Foam Motor Treatment purchased on Oct. 25, 2018 in the ASTM D6079 test.

Cold-temperature protection

Winter will be here before you know it, and you’re going to want to prevent your fuel from gelling once the weather gets cold. AMSOIL Diesel All-In-One outperforms Howes and delivers a cetane boost.

AMSOIL Diesel Injector Clean + Cetane Boost

Diesel Cetane Boost

  • Raises the cetane number of diesel fuel up to eight points for maximum horsepower, increased fuel economy and easier starts in all diesel engines

Diesel Cold Flow

  • Effectively modifies wax crystal formation at low temperatures to depress diesel fuel pour point, prevent wax settling and improve cold-flow filtration properties

  1. As Mr. Rob Mcginley wrote “All in one” comes too expensive for everyday use. When I compare my cost of less than $7 to treat ~120 gal. in ‘big rig’ with competitor’s additive to price of AMSOIL’s fuel additive it’s obvious who’s gonna win. To clear things up – benefits of both additives to are pretty much similar.

    1. Hi Djordan,

We’re the first to admit that we’re not going to win the head-to-head battle on price. Our goal is superior performance and protection, not lowest price. Even so, consider AMSOIL Injector Clean as an option. It isn’t formulated with the cold-weather benefits of Diesel All-in-One, meaning it’s less expensive. 2. I have used all in one and it works great.
But I would like to see this product be more concentrated.
It gets very expensive considering how much you need to add to a tank of fuel.
It makes it too expensive to use at every fill up.

Pls fine a way to make it more concentrated or lower the price.
I had to switch to a competitor because of the price.

  3. An old time diesel shop (one that rebuilds the old school injectors and injector pumps) informed me that Type-F automatic transmission fluid is one of the best and least costly diesel injector cleaners available. It’s almost pure detergent – I’ve even used it to clean my hands when they’re coated in grease (works better than Go-Jo).

No doubt that AMSOIL products are top quality. Just curious how the AMSOIL products might compare from an cleaning effectiveness point-of-view (more so than from a freezing temperature perspective).

I think this would be an interesting comparison.

    1. I’ve heard in the past that mechanics would put ATF in the gas tank to clean the combustion changer when I was a kid. The funny thing is that it’s very rare you hear these stories. My biggest concern is that ATF was not designed for that specific task. If it was, you would hear it a lot more. I am more concerned about what it’s doing besides cleaning injectors out at a combustible temperature?

The reason for the injector cleaners is not just to clean them, they also lubricate the fuel system as well. These specific cleaners do many things besides just clean, they promote longevity in the fuel system. For diesels that’s a huge benefit. Now it might just be that ATF does just clean, however it doesn’t lubricate the fuel system such at the pump.

I’m all about saving money if I can especially finding new tricks. I’m a bargain shopper when needed. There are unfortunately just some things you can put a price on.

Keeping my fuel system tip top on my lbz Duramax is key to lasting a long time as well as any diesel. Fuel is a huge factor in the functionality of diesels.

It was nice hearing about ATF to clean with again; it brought back some old memories with some really cool people growing up around. I’m with you in the testing, I think that would be a cool idea to see what ATF actually does.
