AMSOIL Preferred Customer Thomas High makes a living as a courier, picking up and delivering medical specimens from approximately 20 laboratories every day throughout the Iowa region. Each week his 2015 Nissan Altima would see anywhere from 430-530 miles a day, at times even reaching 750 miles per day. Most of those were highway miles mixed with multiple stops and stop-and-go traffic through the six cities along his route. On top of that, Iowa can see extreme weather conditions with brutal cold in the winter and high heat in the summer. Such a driving regimen takes a toll on any vehicle, and High found himself facing transmission issues.
High’s 2015 Nissan was purchased with 114,000 miles and reassurance from the car dealer that the CVT transmission had been properly maintained and would go for another 100,000 miles without major issues. Unfortunately, before long he faced a slipping transmission and loss of speed while driving, causing him to need a new transmission after all. High went to a Nissan dealership and invested in a brand-new transmission to keep him on the road and able to make his living.
High was intent on developing the best maintenance routine to ensure his Altima would see many more miles before it was retired. His research led him to AMSOIL CVT Transmission Fluid. Upon learning about its performance benefits and seeing that he could purchase it at a lower cost than the dealership brand, he made the switch. High is now a firm believer in using premium products and following a strict maintenance routine that includes a transmission fluid change every 30,000 miles.
“The results of my research told me that anywhere from 30,000 to 50,000 miles was the range in which I should be changing the CVT fluid. I made the choice, since I had invested in a brand-new transmission, that I was going to change it every 30,000 miles,” said High. “I logged all my maintenance and changed my oil every 10,000 miles using a full synthetic oil and filter. Every third oil change, the transmission got AMSOIL CVT fluid.
“I drove this vehicle another 480,000 miles with a new transmission all the way to 655,000 miles with no transmission problems. Throughout all this maintenance, I never had one issue, with the transmission strongly shifting and driving. I honestly believe that until the time I was unable to drive the car, I was looking at getting 1,000,000 miles out of that transmission. That was my goal.”
Sadly, that goal was cut short when High’s Altima was totaled by a semitruck in December 2025. High was extremely disappointed by the loss of the car he had poured so much time and work into, and which had carried him 655,000 miles. He replaced his 2015 Altima with a 2016 model so he could utilize parts from the old one as needed. High continues his rigorous maintenance schedule and still relies on AMSOIL to help keep his transmission in top shape for the many miles ahead.
