Training the next generation of powersports technicians
Motorcycles, ATVs and boats keep getting more sophisticated, and the industry needs skilled technicians to keep them running. AMSOIL sponsors the powersports programs at the Motorcycle and Marine Mechanics Institutes (MMI), part of Universal Technical Institute (UTI), and is part of the MMI curriculum. AMSOIL supplies the lubricants used in MMI’s motorcycle and marine programs, so students learn on the same synthetic oils and fluids they’ll recommend to customers after graduation.
MMI’s motorcycle program runs at UTI’s campuses in Phoenix and Orlando, Fla., and its marine program is based in Orlando. Students train hands-on with engines from leading manufacturers and can go on to specialized factory training. Thinking about a career as a technician? Building better drivers at Team O’Neil Rally School
Rally racing happens on real roads, in real weather, in street-legal cars — which makes it one of the hardest tests a vehicle and its driver can face. AMSOIL is the official lubricant of Team O’Neil Rally School in Dalton, N.H., and supplies the oil for its fleet of rally and support vehicles.
The school sits on 583 acres of New England terrain with more than six miles of stage rally roads. Its courses cover rally, winter, off-road, tarmac and security driving for everyone from enthusiasts to professional racers and government agencies, using a fleet of more than 70 vehicles. Those cars see sub-zero winters, hot summers and drivers who push them to the limit every day — exactly the conditions AMSOIL synthetic lubricants are built for.
Supporting K-9 teams in the Northland
AMSOIL founder Al Amatuzio was a lifelong dog lover. When he saw that local police departments struggled to fund K-9 programs, he started a foundation to give them a permanent source of support. Today the AMSOIL Northland Law Enforcement K-9 Foundation works with eight agencies in the Duluth, Minn., and Superior, Wis., area: the Duluth, Hermantown, Superior, Virginia, Hibbing and Eveleth police departments and the St. Louis County and Douglas County sheriff’s offices.
K-9s do work their handlers can’t. A trained dog can track a missing person, find narcotics during a traffic stop or sweep a venue for explosives before a crowd arrives, far faster than an officer could alone. But a dog and its training are expensive, and most agencies can’t fund a program from their regular budgets. The foundation helps close that gap so more K-9 teams can stay on the street, and it still hosts an annual community event where handlers and their dogs show what they can do.
