Sportsman’s Spotlight: Brina Splingaire

Brina Splingaire hails from North Riverside, Ill. and races in NHRA North Central Division 3 throughout the Midwest. She enjoys competing in the performance-based Stock and Superstock drag racing classes, but her goal is to win the coveted “Wally” trophy and leave her mark on the NHRA. Having won five NHRA national events and five NHRA divisional events, she is currently targeting a divisional and national points championship.

She started racing in the NHRA Junior Drag Racing League at age 8, after her father saw an article about the league in a magazine. “My father is a mechanic and was always involved with racing, whether cars or dirt bikes, so he thought I might be interested as well. My first pass down a drag strip was in April 1995 at Byron Dragway in Illinois. I have been hooked ever since.”

Splingaire has raced in Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Stock and Stock drag events. “We compete at Summit Motorsports Park, National Trail Raceway, Beech Bend Raceway Park, Indianapolis Raceway Park, Flying H, and World Wide Technology Raceway. But I’m lucky to call Route 66 Raceway my home track.”

She loves the racing community and has established many wonderful friendships. “Racing means the world to me. Racing with my father taught me about mechanics, which was the reason I went into mechanical engineering. Racing taught me about sportsmanship and how to be competitive at a different level. It has also introduced me to a large network of ‘family’ and friends that I cherish and who I would otherwise not have met. The most important thing that racing has given me are the most incredible experiences and memories with my father, Jeff, and my mother, Cyndi, which can never be replaced.”
