Consider these numbers put down by the heavily modified Nissan GT-R owned by Germany’s Materialmord Racing:
- 228 mph (367 km/h) on the 1/2 mile (804 m) – a European record that’s stood for more than two years.
- 0 to 124 mph (200 km/h) in 3.4 seconds (a stock 2020 Nissan GT-R takes 2.9 seconds to hit 60 mph (96 km/h).
What’s next for Paul Dziubek, the car’s creator and one of Germany’s top tuners? He has his sights set on grabbing the European AWD record of 7.1 seconds on the 1/4 mile (402 m). And AMSOIL synthetic lubricants are one of the tools in his arsenal as he chases his latest record.
We talked with Dziubek to find out more about his record-setting GT-R and why he uses AMSOIL products.
There are a lot of performance cars out there. Why the GT-R?
“A Nissan GT-R in itself offers a lot of potential to increase performance. That’s what attracted me from the beginning and, over time, I tried to get more and more power out of the car. The end product still offers potential, but of course we’re on a very high level here. Unfortunately, it was not for nothing that the vehicle is no longer approved for road use any more.”
What have you done to the car to boost performance?
“The list is too long to cover every detail of the series of modifications to the vehicle. But the main task is to keep all aspects of the car in tune with each other. In these performance areas, small things have a very big effect; you have to be careful.”
What is it about racing you love most?
“I’ve always found racing very interesting. However, it was only through tuning that I really got into the subject and stayed with it. It’s the mixture of racing and tuning that really motivates me. Both the technical aspects, when you work on the car, and the racing feeling make up the whole package for me.”
How long have you been using AMSOIL?
“I have been using AMSOIL for approximately one-and-a-half years now. With AMSOIL, I have found the right lubricant for my vehicle. In the performance ranges in which we operate with the Nissan GT-R, it is extremely important to use reliable lubricants. Both part protection and performance are paramount.”
Which AMSOIL products do you use?
“The GT-R uses a wide range of AMSOIL products; the two most important are engine oil and transmission fluid.
“For the engine, I use AMSOIL 15W-50 DOMINATOR Synthetic Racing Oil. Due to the extremely high engine temperatures, I need an engine oil that has a special film strength and at the same time allows the engine to exploit its full performance.”
“I fill the gearbox with AMSOIL Signature Series Fuel-Efficient Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid. Here, it depends especially on the protection against wear. Due to the jerky accelerations, the transmission is particularly stressed. AMSOIL ATF significantly reduces wear on the parts.”
“For maintenance purposes and to replace the parts in the engine, I disassemble and reassemble them at short-to-medium intervals. To run-in the parts, I use AMSOIL Break-In Oil. New parts in the engine often require a certain “run-in” time to be perfectly integrated into the overall system. The break-in oil from AMSOIL is of great importance.”
How have AMSOIL products helped the GT-R?
“A vehicle like the Nissan GT-R is about small things. The possibility of calling up maximum power at any time plays a superordinate role. I am able to achieve this effect in particular with the AMSOIL engine oil.”
