For nearly five decades, NHRA Mountain Motor Pro Stock standout John DeFlorian has dedicated his life to building and racing the fastest drag cars he can create. Based in Arnold, Mo., the 2025 NHRA Mountain Pro Stock world champion and Team AMSOIL member is known for his technical mastery and decorated racing career.
The Road to an NHRA World Championship
Spend a few minutes with DeFlorian, and it’s clear that drag racing fuels every part of his life — trophies are just icing on the cake.
“Drag racing is my absolute passion, which is what continues to keep me motivated,” said DeFlorian. “Drag racing and building race cars is all I have ever wanted to do.”

And that’s what he has done. DeFlorian’s 2025 NHRA Mountain Motor Pro Stock world championship was the culmination of nearly five decades of perseverance, craftsmanship and belief. From his first runs at Gateway Motorsports Park in 1977 as a 16‑year‑old bracket racer to hoisting the white hat at his home track in St. Louis, DeFlorian’s career followed a path defined by hard work, patience and perseverance.
DeFlorian rose through the ranks while funding his own racing, eventually competing in nitrous Pro Mod and ADRL Pro Nitrous. At the same time, he built race cars for others as foreman at Jerry Haas Race Cars* in Fenton, Mo. The dual role of driver and fabricator made him a respected figure in the St. Louis drag racing community and gave him a deep understanding of chassis setup, race preparation and team dynamics.
