So, what’s new about reformulated XL Synthetic Motor Oil?
In essence, XL protects better for longer, yet costs the same as before. It’s the perfect choice for enthusiasts who want to do something extra for their vehicle.
Good, better, best
You’re familiar with “good, better, best” categorizations. I just bought a new circular saw after having fried mine cutting aluminum fascia cover. Yes, it’s possible – just use a fine-tooth blade installed backward. But I got greedy and tried cutting four pieces stacked on top of each other, and that’s when things unraveled.
As I stalked the aisles of Menards, I was presented with the saw manufacturer’s good, better and best circular saw options.
I settled on the “better” option. I’m not a contractor, so “best” is more saw than I need. The “good” option just feels wrong given my love of wiling away the hours in my garage building – and sometimes breaking – things.
The middle option fit me perfectly, so I bought it. That, and it has a laser cutting guide, which rules.
All this to show that XL Synthetic Motor Oil is our “better” option. Some motorists might feel that AMSOIL Signature Series (our “best”) is more oil than their car needs. Alternatively, they might think their baby deserves more than merely our “good” motor oil – OE Synthetic Motor Oil. However, the categorization is somewhat misleading since our “good” option is better than some motor oil companies’ “better” options, and just as good as their “best”.
XL Synthetic Motor Oil is perfect for them. And now, it’s even better.
Stronger for longer
XL now lasts longer than before. You can extend drain intervals to 12,000 miles/one year, or longer if recommended in your vehicle owner’s manual, if you want.
We pulled that off by boosting the oil with more cleaning power – 25 percent more compared to AMSOIL OE Synthetic Motor Oil. The added cleaning power helps fight deposits that that rob your engine of power and efficiency.
XL also delivers improved resistance to chemical break down during periods of high-temperature operation. Oils that chemically break down oxidize and become thicker, which leads to all sorts of problems:
- Excessive oil consumption
- Engine deposits
- Accelerated wear
- Difficult cold starts
The GM Oxidation and Deposit (GMOD) engine test simulates severe operating conditions to assess a motor oil’s ability to control viscosity increase, deposits and oil consumption. The testing revealed that AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oil provides 64 percent more protection against oil breakdown, ensuring protection in extreme temperatures.*
Preventing low-speed pre-ignition
XL Synthetic Motor Oil also achieved 100 percent protection against LSPI.** We’ve been talking about low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) for months. It’s a huge problem in the industry right now. You can read more about it here. But, if you want the abridged version, just know that XL Synthetic Motor Oil aced the LSPI test GM requires for its new dexos1 Gen 2 spec and allowed zero LSPI events. It delivers excellent protection in modern turbocharged direct-injection (T-GDI) engines.
Finally, XL boasts a new, bright orange label, which perfectly fits the upcoming deer hunting season.
One thing remains the same, however – the price. XL offers better protection and performance, yet costs the same as always.
How’s that for a “better” oil?
